Zero Volatile Organic Compounds Ink and SolventGreat Lakes, our ink supplier for the industry standard 21170 auto stencil ink product, working closely with T&S and a TASKWRITERâ customer in northern Ohio, has completed development of a zero VOC ink and solvent alignment that works beautifully with the Model PH4 printheads for OCTG stenciling. This material, ink 21190 and solvent S250, has all the characteristics of the 21170 material for self-cleaning, head lubrication, readability, and bonding to the pipe surface, with a zero VOC rating. In comparisons with competing products, the ink is easier to set up, with virtually no “splatter”. Cleanup is comparable with the 21170 product, with complete removal of the ink residues from use by a simple wipe with the S250 solvent. The new ink produced a brighter, more coherent stencil with no chemical or abrasive attack on the printhead solenoids or components. In addition, there is a cost savings projected from the dramatic decrease in the amount of material needed to produce a stencil. Consumption at the development site went down by a factor of 50%.
